Alternative dataset discontinuations hit new heights in 2023. However, the underlying reasons and risks were not evenly spread. Below, we highlight the key drivers behind these terminations and discuss some risk factors and market trends to consider throughout 2024.

BIG PICTURE

Dataset discontinuations on our platform more than doubled in 2023 – the second largest year-on-year increase we have recorded. We saw over 120 terminations from over 50 data vendors, up from 66 in 2022 and 53 in 2021.

Vendors’ financial distress, underperformance and strategic acquisitions were the leading causes of discontinuations. In terms of the types of datasets that discontinued, the top three were web-scraping, transaction and web/app tracking.
