Welcome to the May edition of Neudata Tidbits for Data Providers, which is coming to you a bit early due to Monday’s Memorial Day holiday in the US and spring bank holiday in the UK.

This month, we discuss the latest data on mobile panel opt-in rates after Apple’s release of iOS 14.5, data provider acquisition activity and our popular industry people moves section.

APPLE APP TRACKING
Apple’s new privacy features, which let users opt out of app tracking, are looking (perhaps unsurprisingly) popular with users, according to data this month from Flurry Analytics.

The analysis shows that only about 5% of Flurry’s two billion monthly average users in the US have opted in to device tracking since the update was released. Worldwide, that number increases to about 15%. While we haven’t seen any immediate impact from Apple’s latest update, we expect other SDK-derived panels to see similar opt-in rates.

In recent months, Neudata clients have expressed concerns about traditional geolocation datasets, and we’ve more recently observed interest in location panels with decreased panel churn risks (i.e., apps that collect data directly from users within their own mobile apps).

If you want to keep an eye on how users opt-in activity is changing over time, Flurry is sharing weekly updates on its blog.

NOTABLE ACQUISITION ACTIVITY
Mobile app data provider Sensor Tower has acquired Pathmatics’ paid digital and social media platform. In addition to securing Pathmatics’ IP and onboarding its employees, the deal will allow Sensor Tower to introduce new data products in the coming months, including new social insights for Tik Tok, YouTube mobile and Snap.

In other acquisition news, FiscalNote has bought two more data providers for its legislative and regulatory data offering, taking its total number of DP acquisitions to four over the past six months.

NEUDATA'S SUMMER SUMMIT
We’re gearing up for the Neudata Summer Summit, which will be held on June 15-17. There’s still time to get involved – just register your interest and we’ll get in touch.
