On 23rd February, Germany joined a packed year of elections by heading to the polls for a federal election. Emerging victorious was Friedrich Merz’s centre-right CDU party, with far-right AfD coming in second. As a major global economy, Germany’s election results are forecasted to impact the financial sector in a variety of ways, with outsized impacts on defence, industrials and macro trends.
