Adam leads the SEC’s newly established Event and Emerging Risks Examinations Team (EERT) in the Division of Examinations. EERT is a new office established to proactively engage with financial firms about emerging threats and current market events and quickly mobilize to provide expertise and resources when critical matters arise. EERT helps to ensure, through examinations and other firm engagement and monitoring activities that firms are better prepared to address exigent threats, incidents, and emerging risks. EERT will also provide expertise and support in response to significant market events that could have a systemic impact or that place investor assets at risk, such as exchange outages, liquidity events, and cyber-security or operational resiliency concerns. EERT also focuses on published exam priorities, which includes examinations of new and emerging technologies, including the use of Alternative Data. Previously Adam served as Senior Advisor to the Director of the Division where he focused on risk, strategy and innovation. Earlier, Adam served as the Commission’s first-ever Managing Executive and Chief Operating Officer of the Division of Enforcement, where he was instrumental in the Division’s most significant restructuring in the Division’s history. Adam has also held several key executive roles in the private sector, including Chief of Staff and Chief Operating Officer of Legal and Compliance at Marsh & McLennan Companies and Vice President of the Business Intelligence Group at Goldman Sachs. Adam is a graduate of the NYU Stern School of Business and SUNY Buffalo.
Bryn joined Aurum Research Limited (“ARL”) in 2007 as an Analyst in the Operational Due Diligence team. He became Head of Operational Due Diligence in 2016, and is responsible for overseeing the ODD team, for conducting operational due diligence on hedge funds as part of the manager selection process, and for ongoing monitoring of invested funds.
Prior to joining ARL, Bryn was an investment funds auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers (London) from 2002 to 2006, specialising in the audit and analysis of investment funds including mutual funds, investment trusts and other alternative investments. From 2006 to 2007 he worked as a subject matter expert in the US, helping to develop PwC's future global audit approach. His role involved developing risk based analytical tools and understanding client information systems and processes. Bryn holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics with Accountancy from Loughborough University. He is a CFA charterholder.
Hannah is a Partner at Houghton Street Ventures, a new venture firm backing companies founded by students and alumni of the London School of Economics, and alongside that, co-founder of a global industry-wide initiative, VentureESG, whose aim is to help the VC sector recognise the importance of ESG and to provide resources and guidance to make ESG a standard part of diligence, portfolio management and fund management.
Ben founded Osmosis following the financial crisis of 2008 believing there was an opportunity to change the way capital is allocated as a force for good. With the intent of growing a globally recognised brand within the asset management industry, Ben sought a sustainable investment solution that would work for the economy and the environment and thus encourage mainstream adoption.
One of the first advocates of a quantifiable approach to sustainable investment, Ben is a regular speaker and panellist on the role of environmental data in the sustainable transition.
Habib is a co-founder and the Chief Investment Officer of V-Square Quantitative Management, a global asset management firm with sustainability (ESG) at its core. He is a twenty-year investment management veteran having worked for global financial services companies in Europe and the U.S.
A champion of innovation and transformation, Habib combines a science academic background with an extensive investing experience and the international regulatory frameworks. He successfully led numerous strategic initiatives resulting in solutions for investors across the globe. Many of those focused on environmental, social, and good corporate governance matters. He launched the first active quant climate change fund in 2007 in North America.
Prior to V-Square, Habib held various senior leadership roles in investment and business development at HSBC, Columbia Threadneedle, J.P. Morgan, and more recently Vident Investment Advisory. Furthermore, he was an Adjunct Professor at New York University SPS Finance and Law program from 2012 to 2018, and now regularly works with and lectures at the University of Chicago MS Program in Financial Mathematics.
Habib is a member of the Advisory Board of The Journal of Impact & ESG Investing, part of the Portfolio Management Research family that contains titles including The Journal of Portfolio Management, The Journal of Investing, and The Journal of Fixed Income. Habib regularly publishes thought leadership pieces and is often featured as a speaker in conferences addressing the various challenges of the financial industry, the emerging/growing macro trends, and discussing practical approaches for companies to effectively adapt to both the climate and the societal transitions.
Habib is NACD Directorship Certified™ and is a Certified Investment Fund Director (CIFD) by the CIFD Institute. He holds the Financial Risk Manager (FRM) designation, certified by the Global Association of Risk Professionals. Habib received a BS in Physics from the Faculty of Sciences and Medical Studies of the Sorbonne University Group in Paris, France. He also holds an MS in Statistics and Data Science, Applied Mathematics and Economics from the French National School of Statistics and Information Analysis, ENSAI, and an MS in Quantitative Finance from the University of Rennes, France.
Austeja Petroskeviciute, associate, is a quantitative analyst within the J.P. Morgan Asset Management International Equity Group, based in London. An employee since 2018, Austeja joined the firm as a graduate trainee on the Global Equity Data Science team. She holds a BSc Hons in Mathematics from University of Bath.
Wesley has spent 15 of his last 20 years in Asia as an investor in growing private companies.
He founded Brightriver Capital in Singapore to combine private equity’s active value creation approach with venture’s tech-first mindset in emerging markets. Along with leading Brightriver’s investment operations, he has driven the development of proprietary data tools for origination and diligence.
He speaks English, Japanese and Indonesian, and he holds an MBA from The University of Chicago, Booth School of Business.
Abby McInnes leads Man's Data Sourcing and Strategy team which is part of Man Data Science. She is responsible for the sourcing and commercial management of data used by Man's investment teams. Prior to joining Man Group, Abby was a Business Evaluations and Operations Analyst at Rolls Royce Aerospace. Abby holds a Master’s degree in Physics from Durham University.
Shruti Thaker is the Global Data Manager for Pendal group where she is working to develop and implement a new data strategy for the group. Ms Thaker has a long history in the finance sector, having previously headed up CRM and Corporate Access technologies for Citigroup Institutional Equities. At Citi, Shruti created a new Corporate Access system and implementing many of the MiFID II changes required for that legislation. While at Citigroup, she also lead a cross industry group in creating industry wide standards for MiFID II reporting.
Ms Thaker’s most recent role was at BlackRock, where she was head of Alpha Capture and vendor data for Active Equities, focusing on alternative data.
Outside of work, Shruti is on the board of directors for Grace Institute, a non-profit in New York which aims to improve the lives of women through training and job placements.
Lauren Stevens is a Quantitative Researcher & Developer in the Strategy & Planning Department of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA). Prior to joining ADIA, Mrs. Stevens was Senior Vice President, Senior Strategist for FactSet’s Content and Technology Solutions, responsible for analyzing market research and determining the direction of the FactSet content, cloud, alternative data and technology strategy. Mrs. Stevens holds a B.S. in Policy Analysis and Management from Cornell University.
Dominique is an Associate on the Data Strategy & Solutions within the Portfolio Management Group at BlackRock, which is a centralized function for data discovery, distribution and bespoke solutions. She leads their Acquisition efforts to identify, onboard and evaluate differentiated data sources that complement investment research.
Josef is a recognised industry leader in Alternative Data for Fundamental Investing. He has spent twelve years as equity investor, seven years as a hedge fund partner – and is an industry pioneer in using alternative data, having created trackers in-house before the alternative industry even existed. Josef is a regularly invited Conference Speaker and Guest Lecturer at The University of Oxford for “Alternative Data for Fundamental Investing”.
Josef is the ex Co-Founder and Partner of Portsea Asset Management, an investor with a successful track record of fundamental investments in internet and technology companies. His other previous roles also included Investment Analyst for QVT Financial and Equity Trader for Barclays Capital.
Alix Guerrini is an Executive Director at Morgan Stanley who joined the Firm in 2017. Alix is the Head of European Quantitative Equity Research and part of both the European Equity Strategy team and the global quantitative research team. His focus is on quantitative analysis of the equity markets, developing alpha models, evaluating alternative data sources and embedding quantitative analysis into the traditional fundamental framework. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley Alix was part of the global quantitative research team at AB Bernstein for two years and Nomura for four years. Alix holds an Advanced Master’s degree in Financial Techniques from ESSEC Paris and a Master’s degree in Economics and Statistics from Aix-Marseille University.
Kelly Koscuiszka, Partner at Schulte Roth & Zabel, advises private funds on regulatory and compliance matters, with a particular focus on the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, and works closely with clients undergoing SEC examinations. Kelly also advises clients on privacy and data security as well as the challenges presented by new technologies and alternative data. Kelly regularly leads training sessions for clients, including on topics such as alternative data, insider trading and best practices for electronic communications and technology usage. When necessary, she represents clients in regulatory investigations and enforcement actions by the SEC, DOJ and FINRA as well as in complex civil litigation matters.
Kelly received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and her B.A. from Rutgers University.
Christian Takushi is a Macro Economist with 31 years experience in Research, Portfolio Management and Strategy focused on Currencies, Emerging Markets and Geopolitics. Policy makers, central banks and institutional investors seek his out of-the-box analysis & advise as independent geopolitics expert.
He began as a Macroeconomic Analyst at ZKB Research in 1989 and was invited to join Credit Suisse Group in 1993 as Portfolio Manager where he convinced the Private Banking arm to invest in emerging markets - building the research & investment teams in Hong Kong and Singapore. Christian was invited to join Swisscanto Asset Management in 1998 as Director where he continued to manage Emerging Asia & Japanese equities for 14 years. He shaped the Equity & Global Currency Strategies. In 2012 he was invited to join the Global Emerging Markets unit at BCV Asset Management in Lausanne, where he led EM Strategy. Since February 2015 he serves his clients as an Independent Macro Economist & Geopolitical Strategist. His macroeconomic research boutique analyses global Geopolitical Macro Trends underestimated by consensus.
Takushi has lectured/spoken at the Bank for International Settlements, Lausanne University, CFA Institute, IMD Executive MBA Program, Institut Le Rosey etc. – Interviewed on Bloomberg TV, European radio and Swiss TV numerous times. Born in Peru in 1966, he did the German Abitur in Natural Sciences at the Humboldt Gymnasium in Lima, became a Physics-Laboratory Technician (BA) and achieved a Master in Macro Economics at the Institute of Empirical Economic Research of Zurich University. A member of the CFA Institute and the Swiss Financial Analysts Association.
Jason Miller (PhD The Ohio State University) is a tenured Associate Professor of Logistics at the Michigan State University's Eli Broad College of Business. His primary research stream examines issues in the for-hire truck transportation industry including safety, productivity, pricing dynamics, and driver turnover. He also conducts research in the manufacturing and retail sectors that focuses on the disruptive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. He connects his research to practice via frequent posts on LinkedIn that cover an array of topics including inventory levels, pricing dynamics, manufacturing output, and transportation activity. He frequently speaks at industry-oriented webinars covering a range of topics.
Christine Legner is a professor and director of the Department of Information Systems at the Faculty of Business and Economics (HEC), University of Lausanne, Switzerland. She is also the head of the Competence Center Corporate Data Quality (CC CDQ), a research consortium and expert community in the field of data management. In this role, she closely collaborates with leading European companies to support them in managing data as an asset. Before joining HEC Lausanne, she was professor at European Business School and post-doc at University of St. Gallen. She was also a visiting scholar at INSEAD and Stanford University.
Bas is an experienced director with a holistic view on the topic of data analytics, and a good understanding on the impact it has on organizations. His purpose is to help organizations and society to thrive by using data analytics and make a positive ‘impact’. Helping to translate business needs into concrete data solutions, is where he is at his best. This made him a trusted advisor to leaders in both large as well as smaller organizations, where he helps them accelerate their digital/ data transformation. He is pragmatic and likes to cut complex problems manageable steps and bring things together into a structured approach and a concrete roadmap to be able to realize ambitions.
Ian heads the Client Engagement group at Neudata, as well as its busy programme of events. He has spent the last six years helping asset managers, investment banks and retailers to get value out of traditional and alternative data. Prior to that, Ian's experience encompassed analytical and commercial roles at Vodafone, Bank of Scotland and Liberty Mutual.
Ian holds an MA in Mathematics from the University of Oxford, and a Saltire Fellowship in Entrepreneurship from Babson College, Massachusetts.
Daryl is Head of Research at Neudata. He and his team are responsible for researching and discovering alternative datasets for a wide range of asset managers worldwide. In doing so, Neudata are able to deliver objective advice to clients on exactly which datasets are most appropriate for their investment strategy.
Sondra is the editor of Neudata's news platform. She covers the alternative data strategies of asset managers and data vendors, including new fund launches, product launches, fundraising, dataset usage and pricing. She takes a particular focus on legal, compliance and tax issues that impact buyers and sellers of alternative data.
Prior to joining Neudata, Sondra covered the machine learning and alternative data strategies of institutional investors for EQDerivatives/machineByte and commercial real estate debt markets for Real Estate Finance & Investment across the US, UK and Europe.
Sondra holds BA degrees in Economics and Public Communications from American University in Washington, D.C.
Barney joined Neudata in 2021 as an ESG analyst, having previously worked for three years at an executive search firm executing mandates across distribution and investment roles. During this time, he also led the Asset Management Practice’s intelligence gathering and analytics.
He holds an MA in History from the University of St Andrews.
Farah started in the alternative data space by providing patent intelligence to public and private equity investors. In conjunction, Farah worked with corporate research & development departments from a broad range of industries.
Farah has an LLB in Law from Durham University.
Marko is the Head of Data Science Innovation for the Americas at RavenPack with over 10 years of experience in the finance industry. He focuses on exploring novel approaches and techniques for combining fundamental drivers with big data quantitative frameworks to identify alpha opportunities from a wide universe of securities across multiple asset classes. Previously, as the head trader/investment analyst at an event-driven hedge fund in New York, he was responsible for macro research, idea generation and risk management. Marko has experience in utilizing quantitative methods in portfolio construction, developing hedging strategies and trading structured derivative instruments.
Blake has been a leader in the oil and gas sector for more than 25 years. As founder and president of Scott Environmental Services and Scott Energy Technologies, Blake pioneered groundbreaking research and development in the drilling-waste recycling industry. Blake has received multiple awards and recognitions for his work, and has presented to organizations such as the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, has served on ITRC’s Solidification/Stabilization Team, and was an expert for GRI’s Oil and Gas Sector Standard. Blake founded Waste Analytics in 2018 in order to provide data and risk information necessary to navigate the energy transition. Blake has a BA and MBA from Texas Christian University.
Tom is Director of Equity Research at Apptopia. Tom leads the company's research effort, using Apptopia's mobile intelligence to uncover trends about companies that can be turned into investable decisions. Tom provides the link between the raw data and the customer's investment process. Tom has 15 years of experience investing across global equity markets, with unique expertise in small cap emerging markets stocks. Tom has covered all regions and sectors, performing rigorous fundamental analysis at the country, industry, and company levels. Most recently, Tom was a Senior Research Analyst at Copper Rock Capital Partners.
Ian founded and leads Pyxis by Bain & Co. and has 17+ years of working with data to inform business decisions.
Pyxis combines inputs from 30+ alternative data sources with AI-driven analytics and institutional investor-led insights to generate 300+ actionable custom projects every year for PE and VC clients.
Prior to founding Pyxis and selling the company to Bain, Ian was a financials analyst at Fore Research & Management, a $3b multi-strategy hedge fund. Previously, Ian was a Vice President on the #1 Institutional Investor ranked Large-Cap Banks team at Sanford Bernstein.
Ian received an MBA from Columbia Business School, where he received the Beta Gamma Sigma Alumni Award. He graduated Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a BSE in Systems Engineering and a BA in Economics.
Sayad Baronyan was appointed Director of quantitative research at EPFR, Informa Financial Intelligence in 2020. He oversees the Quantitative research team tracking and analysing fund flows and positioning data from EPFR’s database made up of 135,000 share classes and representing $43 trillion of assets under management. Sayad is focused on flow and positioning
data, identifying new systematic investment strategies. He provides consultative services to hedge funds and investment firms, leverages his background in portfolio management to offer deeper insights to clients.
Prior to joining Informa, Sayad previously ran the multi-asset funds desk at HSBC Global Asset Management in Istanbul, where he won the best performing fund manager award from the Forbes Magazine in 2017.
He generates research reports for journal papers and other publications, and participates in Quant and alternative data events, most recently The Thalesians and DataScrum, Eagle Alpha and Neudata.
Sayad received a MSc, Computational Science from Istanbul Technical University and has a Ph.D in Finance from Özyeğin University, Istanbul.
Philippe Pagnotta is in charge of Alternative Data within Shipfix. Philippe and his team are responsible for developing and structuring data solutions for Shipfix clients. He works closely with institutional clients and the trading community in order to help them leverage Shipfix data within their algorithms and trading strategies.
Prior to joining Shipfix in January 2020 Philippe was a Director at IHS Markit where he spent 15 years structuring and selling alternative data products to institutional clients. He joined Markit when it was a start-up of 50 employees until it became a $30B market cap with 14,000 staff.
Geraldo Filgueiras after over 14 years with the sell side of Wall Street as quant strategist, trader and risk manager, founded BAM.Money. Prior to BAM, Geraldo worked at Goldman Sachs, Barclays, Merrill Lynch and BNP Paribas in their fixed income or corporate risk divisions.
Geraldo directly (while not alone) contributed to the avoidance of major financial losses for a few institutions (at one of them it was over $20B). He was praised by management and regulators (at the same time!)
Geraldo has a PhD in Operations Research from Stanford University with a dissertation titled Value and Use of information in security markets.
Kevin is responsible for data product development and sales at BondCliQ. He has 25+ years in capital markets with the majority focused on fixed income trading and e-trading evolution. Kevin began his career in Mortgage Trading at Prudential Securities and Barclays before transitioning into fixed income electronic trading at MarketAxess and then at the New York Stock Exchange. His expertise in fixed income and equity market structure evolution has provided the foundational knowledge to help develop BondCliQ, the world’s first fixed income consolidated quotation service.
Vijay Sikka is the Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sikka Software Corporation. Under his leadership, Sikka Software has grown from a start-up to have over 35,000 practice installations and 120m patients on its platform for healthcare on the demand side and over 50 companies which have built applications on the supply side. Prior to Sikka Software, Vijay has worked in Artificial Intelligence and decision systems for more than 25 years. He has experience with large scale projects at Intel Corporation, National Institutes of Health, Glaxo Smith Kline, Roche and UCSF affiliates. In 1996, Vijay founded IBrain Software, Inc. that used to compete with Informatica, Hyperion and Cognos and served as its CEO until its acquisition in 1998 by Entigen Corporation, a healthcare information company that later became part of Roche. After that Vijay co-founded Bodha.com that was acquired by Peregrine Systems/Remedy that later became part of BMC Software. Vijay holds an M.S. degree in EE and AI from Syracuse University, New York, pursued doctoral studies in neurosciences at Stanford University (incomplete Ph.D). He is a frequent speaker at big data, AI, healthcare, technology and quality meetings. Vijay’s book on Maximizing ROI on Software Development was published by Taylor and Francis International and earns him a proud royalty check every few months.
Dawson is Senior Director of Sales at LeapYear Technologies and leads the firm’s data commercialization business. He works with data owners to securely monetize their data using LeapYear’s transformative software. Before LeapYear, Dawson held leadership positions at various alternative data and research organizations, providing solutions to institutional investors and corporate clients. He graduated cum laude from Boston College with an honors degree in Philosophy.
Ed is VP of Investor Intelligence at Similarweb (NYSE:SMWB). He joined Similarweb’s London office in 2017 to establish the Investor Business unit which provides web and app traffic data to the Asset Management industry. Since then, it has become a leading player in the Alternative Data space. In 2021, he moved to New York to lead the global team. Prior to Similarweb, Ed has worked with many of the world's leading brands, including Google, eBay and Airbnb, shaping their online strategies through digital data. Ed started his career in Investment Banking in London, working at Rothschild and DC Advisory.
Yukio Goto joined QUICK Corp. in 2012 as Senior Data
Consultant responsible for developing business
opportunities including alliance with a focus on product
enhancement and strategic initiatives related to Data
solutions such as QUICK APIs working with both Sellsides
(Securities and Money brokers) and Buysides (Asset
Managers, HedgeFunds, Private Equity Funds, and
Regional Banks) as well as Trading system vendors. With
over 30years of experience with Market data consultation at
Data vendors and Securities company , he has good
understanding of Alternative data combined with a deep
knowledge of Japanese financial market and regulations.
Prior to joining QUICK, he was responsible for Global Loans
and; Credits including derivatives data solution heading the
Tokyo office at Thomson Reuters(REFINITIV) LPC (Loan
Pricing Corporation) Japan for 7years. He was a pioneer in
the field of Japanese loans pricing data disclosed for the
first time in Japan supported by Mega Banks and; Securities.
Matthew Bergerman is an Executive Director at the DTCC and has been part of the DTCC Data Services team since July of 2015. He is charged with product development of data solutions for Equity Markets.
He has worked in the Financial Information industry for over 25 years. Previously, he has worked with financial market and reference data on the vendor side at Thomson Financial (now Refinitv-LSEG) and Pershing, as well as a consumer at Alliance Bernstein, Fortress Investment Group, and Deutsche Bank. Matthew has a BS degree from Syracuse University and an MBA from the New York Institute of Technology
Vinesh founded ExtractAlpha in 2013 in Hong Kong with the mission of bringing analytical rigor to the analysis and marketing of new data sets for the capital markets. Since ExtractAlpha's merger with Estimize in early 2021, he has served as the CEO of both entities. From 1999 to 2005, Vinesh was the Director of Quantitative Research at StarMine in San Francisco, where he developed industry leading metrics of sell side analyst performance as well as successful commercial alpha signals and products based on analyst, fundamental, and other data sources. Subsequently, he developed systematic trading strategies for proprietary trading desks at Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley in New York. Most recently he was Executive Director at PDT Partners, a spinoff of Morgan Stanley's premiere quant prop trading group, where in addition to research he also applied his experience in the communication of complex quantitative concepts to investor relations. Vinesh holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and a graduate degree from the University of Cambridge, both in mathematics.
Kjael is the CRO at Altvia, where he leads the Go-To-Market effort and is responsible for sustainable growth in revenue and market share. Prior to Altiva, Kjael was the VP of Sales & Brand at Harri, where he led customer acquisition efforts and guided the brand strategy. Leading up to Harri, Kjael founded Skaling Ventures, a GTM consultancy that helped venture-backed Series A firms build a repeatable sales motion, while earning his MBA at NYU-Stern.
Michael is a Managing Director at Thinknum Alternative Data. He has experience delivering internal & external data-driven insights and competitive intelligence to financial institutions and consulting firms globally. Prior to Thinknum, Michael benchmarked Tier 1 & 2 Banks' business, operations, and technology performance relative to peers while at Expand Research, A BCG Company.
Kayla analyzes household finance trends and the labor market for Morning Consult, leveraging the company’s proprietary, high-frequency data. Prior to joining Morning Consult, Kayla was a key member of the corporate strategy team at telecommunications company SES, where she produced market intelligence and industry analysis of mobility markets. Kayla also served as an economist at IHS Markit, where she covered global services industries, provided price forecasts, produced written analyses, and served as a subject matter expert on client-facing consulting projects. Kayla earned her bachelor’s degree in economics from Emory University, and earned an MBA with a certificate in non-market strategy from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business.
Dean is responsible for leading, developing and expanding Neudata’s events programme.
Having spent the last decade creating, building and scaling conference and content businesses within the FinTech and Energy sectors, Dean has worked with some of the most recognisable global brands on B2B events of all sizes. Dean co-founded two conference companies in 2013 and exited through acquisition in early 2020.
Dean holds a BA Hons degree in Theatre and Performance Studies from Warwick University.
Jonathan is Business Development Manager for the Buyside in New York. Prior to joining Neudata, Jonathan worked in the Data industry bringing vendor offerings to the investor community. Formerly an institutional research salesperson and trader focused on domestic equities. Jonathan has over 20 years of Capital Markets, Data and Technology experience. Jonathan has held various positions with BAML, Fidelity Capital Markets, J P Morgan and Avian Securities/Topeka Capital Markets.
Jonathan received a BA in Economics and History from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
